yesterday I was tuning my carb after.
body swap
reindexing rear torsion bars
running a new brake line
complete rewire with nissan fuse box (Thanks Ian)
installing saturn front seats.
and while I was reving the engine to warm it up I watched in amazement as my crankshaft pulley was sliding in and out as I rev'd it.
After hitting up the samba I read that I have too much endplay  Thank god I have a 40hp I can throw, or gently slide in.
I need to pull the flywheel but don't have the tool so I can see if my rear bearing is hammered. it's a shame too I like the 1600dp

Don't throw in the chips yet!! Did you have the engine out...or change the flywheel? You might just need to check endplay, and add shims. If you have a set of feeler gauges, and get some thread-all and nuts...you can make your own tool. While it isn't as accurate as using a dial-indicator, it still works. The John Muir book details how to check the endplay this way. Hope that's all you need to do.

i pulled the motor and found that I have about an 1/8 of an inch of endplay. can anyone help me adjust the endplay??

I put the 1200 ( I thought it was a 1500sp) in thursday and started to tune the carb. I got her to idle and was reving. then it happened. vroom, vroom vroogagagaggagag clak clak. so today matt and I pulled it back out. I couldn't turn the motor over by the crank pulley. I was thinking a busted valve, connecting rod.
So... Matt and I put the motor on a milk crate and pulled the head off the right side. We found a washer crushed up inside number 1 cyl. and since I have zero clearance between piston and head, no wonder I couldn't turn it over by hand. pics to come

just pulled the stud out of my h30/31 brazilian carb. does anyone have a carb for a 1200 40hp??

it was the stud under the bowl. and why shouldn't a brazilian carb be replaced??

ok so thanks to Eric. I have a pict28. I guess my "1200" has a big bore kit on it. it has t3 1600 sp heads. we fixed the shaking engine syndrome. It was a pushrod that came off because Matt didn't tighten down one of the valve jam nuts. Anyway I'm gonna try to make it to work tomorrow.

If it has single port heads on it, I doubt it has big bore 40hp pistons! My bet someone just built a 1600sp with the 40hp case, use to happen all the time. Won't know for sure unless you tear it all the way down though. I would see if you can find a 30 pict 1 for it.

sorry i haven't posted anything new. been too busy. anyway. the bug is runnig great with the 28pict. i don't let it get over 4500k. getting 22mpg with a leaking vent tank on my tank. I fixed that thursday. in the process of making a poorman's arbath. been collecting mudflaps from our trucks to make floormats.
anyone have any ideas on how to break the beads on my tires?? without taking them to a shop. when I had my bronco i just let it down on the tires and broke the beads that way. now our honda wont to the job. just looking for some ideas.
