Hi guys! My name is Josh. First off let me start by saying I know absolutely nothing about cars. Well I knew absolutely nothing anyhow. I have always been a pay for the repair or get rid of it if it is more than the car is worth kind of guy. This last year I had a Head Gasket blow on an older nissan. I didn't have the cash to fix it at the time. A fellow member of your site stepped up and helped me replace the head gasket on the car for considerably cheaper. Truth is he did most of the work but I feel like I learned quite a bit and am not nearly as intimidated as I once was. Recently said friend got a tip on a good deal for a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia (I think that's right.). After some discussion I decided to go and see it. It was on a trailer that had rotted through as the car had been on it for 15+ years.
The owner told me he thought it was a 68' but wasnt sure. We went and saw it and it looked like it was in fairly good condition. Not alot of rust, all the windows were good, and all the parts seemed to be there. The big issue was a damaged right front fender. Due to lack of Ghia knowledge we could not get the deck lid open at the time. We went home to do some research and from some general specifics about the car we knew it was pre 67'. We also learned how to open the deck lid. We went back one more time and opened the deck lid. The motor pan had oil and it turned!!!!
Long story short I bought it. Turns out it was a 64'. I just got it home and took some pictures. Going to need advice on repairs and the tricks to bring this all together. So excited!!!

Well, no replies, so I'll give one.
First replace all the fuel lines, flush the tank, and install at least 2 of those cheap see through filters. Use the cloth German line only if you will drive it regularly, or have access to no ethanol fuel. House of Hose has 3/16 all fuel line.
Change the oil, obviously, and clean the screen.
Your engine looks to be about a '68, single port 1600. The carb is a 30 pict2, probably. You should rebuild that.

I had a friend come over and pressure test my motor. I think we may have spotted an issue. the number 4 plug has no pressure at all. the others go up to 100 but rest at 90lbs per port. I pulled the valve cover off and the valves are moving. I was told to get some marvel mystery oil and put it in as that may free up that ring. Any advise as to how to use the marvel mystery oil to free up the rings? I have never done this before but never has Asesapie.

| Go ahead and put some penetrating oil in that cylinder, it probably won't help, but it won't hurt. Next day, turn it a couple times by hand to work the oil past the piston, and then just go ahead and start it. Getting warmed up is more likely to free it up, but most likely is; you're out of luck. |

| If you have 0 compression, it's a burned or open valve, not rings. |

Triple Plate or Spokane Metal Finishing, both on Trent do chrome work, used to straighten/repair as well. Not going to be cheap!
