My speedometer in my 66 beetle jumps around. It has plenty of grease in the wheel. Is ther a certain position the cable needs to be in to work correctely? I have tried different positions and it either gets better or worse. However I can not correct the jumping. Is there away to test the speedometer to see if its good? |

Did you check the end that goes into the center of the wheel? I had a car that bounced around and sorta worked, turned out the little piece on the end of the cable was damaged and wasn't always turning correctly. |

I will check that. I had the wheel off and it extends right into the grease cap and was pinned. it seemed to be turning. |

I just restored mine for cosmetic reasons, and found it still jumped a bit until I replaced the cable. Works very smooth now. Good luck. |

The cable seems to be in ok shape. Maybe I should just try a new cable and see what happens. What do you think? |

I would try it out. Unless you pulled the entire cable out and looked at every bit of it; I would expect there to be alittle freying at some point causing the wack-o behaviour. |
