...any ideas. No rhyme or reason for when it will happen either, just randomly coming to a stop it wont idle, or after starting it. Other times it's just fine.

My bug was doing the same thing...was an old diaphram in the carb. Might need a rebuild. Throttle shaft is tight? No vacuum leaks?

What is the condition of the fuel tank?
Where I am going with this: It is possible particles of rust or whatever are getting sucked through the carb.
