I am new to the forum. I also wanted to get hooked up with the local VW scene.

Here are a couple pics of my Beetle. I picked it up last month for $1700.

That is a very nice Beetle! We looked at it when the guy had a bunch of parts for sale. It has an early version of the 'Idiots Manual' by John Muir with it, take care of that.

I couldn't find when and where the cruise was. I am thinking I might be able to go.

Pics were taken on 5-mile.

I half expected a POS when I got to the guys house. When he opened up the garage I thought, "the body looks ok, but how is the RUST." I looked all over the car and no rust!! I was pretty excited about the whole deal. I was bummed at first about not having the OG smoothies, then he told me that he had the OG wheels in the back and they go with the car. Once I get them sandblasted and painted, I am going to throw them on the Beetle.

Real nice guy, was having problems with the engine in the '58 at the time, turned out to be something simple.

Yes, back to original rims, maybe even two-tone paint would look good.

Click on Calendar up above, then go to Pumpkin Run on Oct. 17th, click on that, it will give the details of the cruise this coming Saturday. Hope to see you there.

I will try to get out there. Pretty busy this weekend.

When did you see the Beetle?
I just replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, wires, points. Set the points and valve lash. Rebuilt the carb. Replaced the rear shoes, rear brake hoses, performed brake fluid flush. Runs great now. Got a couple of oil leaks now, though. I am going to make sure that it is in good mechanical condition before I pull the motor and rebuild it.

I saw the Beetle in early July, ended up buying a bunch of parts from the guy.

Looks really nice! Will definately look better when you get those rims on it! No rust in itself is a definate score for you! Congrats! Looks like steering wheel might be mounted 180deg off??

Scott,
Thanks for the compliment! The steering wheel was just turned in that photo. It is actually mounted like it is supposed to be!

Gorgious.
Is the og paint under that weak respray? If it were me I would hunt around and see if I could strip it back to the original paint. The Samba has great information on the practice under body and paint in the stickies.
