|
|
I wanted to show you all what I'm up to and hopefully get some input from you all!
I started with a well used wiper assembly. I had order new pivots as the old ones were done. There is some rust that I will need to address. Also, I might as well relube everything.
I then took the pivot assembly, pivots, and motor off.
I'm cleaning everything up and getting ready to treat the rust and relube everything. I did some reading on Shoptalk and Samba just to find out what others have done.
I took the cover off the motor. Cleaned the cover of carbon dust and old lube. I think the carbon brushes are about 1/2 warn down. I would like to replace them. Does anyone know where I can purchase new brushes? _________________ 69' Beetle CA Look 1500SP

Will do! I plan on repacking the gears with new lithium grease as well. Do you think that is the right grease for the gears? _________________ 69' Beetle CA Look 1500SP

yes. Also be sure that the armature hasn't started to move, the bushing in the base can start to wear out and it will usually wear on one side more any other spot, basically the armature will start to "tip" over. |

Here is an update. Cleaned up everything and checked all the wires. Like I said before the brushes are about 50% worn down.
The motor itself is in really good condition. No rust or anything else.
Opened up the motor gear box and found that the grease needed to be replaced.
I inspected all the teeth of the gears and found nothing worn out or missing.
Took a while but I got most of the old grease out.
Repacked the gears with new grease. I replaced as much or a little more than what was in there before.
I got that hint off a guy from shoptalk.
Here it is all put back together. I took my time to make sure all the gears where meshed correctly and everything turned.

New update..
I cleaned up the rust on the assembly link arms (I think this is what you call them?) with RustMort and let them stew for a few days. You can see the rust in this photo.
This is what they look like after I got the rust removed, everything cleaned up, and Rustolium Primer applied. Next I will apply Rustolium flat black.
