| OH, the shifter thingamajig! that's like a 3 minute job. Body work, welding, all that horrible stuff, not my deal. I have been doing a lot of body metal work lately, but mine is always just functional repairs and I don't care what it looks like. It would be fun to get into body work, but I don't know who our instructor would be. |

I need to replace a windshield in my 71' super. Heard it is fairly easy. Anyone want to set up a show and tell?
On the boot leg I would just clean up a bunch of the rust and fill it with metal filler. Better stuff than bondo. Need to grind it to smooth when it gets hard. Good stuff! Anyone else got some good ideas?
On the stop plate I use the directions from this web site: http://www.vw-resource.com/plateadj.html
It worked for me.

Please tell me you did not just tell someone to fill it with filler......Cut it out and replace with metal, do it right the first time. |

Bring your bus over on Friday and we will formulate a plan. We can cetainly take care of that shifter thing. Jen decided to tear her engine down, so we may be working on that too. If nothing else I have projects to do! This Friday, my place, 6:00.

Ya welding in new metal is the way to go in the long run. I guess it all depends on what skills and tools you have in the shop. I've used the more top end of the fillers with metal powder in it with no problems. The only thing I've seen go wrong is not getting all the rust cut out! Then next thing you know the rust starts to move through the metal next to the filler.
Evil RUST! Go away!! 
Any one want to do a shop night on rust removal and prevention?

| Hmm, Friday, that means getting the front bumper back on, and the rear lights reconnected, that wont take long, trim rings on front don't matter one lick for driving it. What's gonna take me a few is getting the 3 bolts that sheered off for the front bumper out and finding new ones, I will get it done! |

As fate would have it, the wife has a gathering 6 PM Friday as well, so I will be able
to get in the way at Steve's fine shop once again.

Well my bumper is giving me issues, namely broken bolts. Threaded part stuck, and when I tried to get one out with a nifty tool, the part that the bolt threads into came off. I am just gonna stick the front plate in the front window and come anyways. Got all the lights back on.

| If your good witha wire feed, you can weld down the center of a nut, and weld it to the broken bolt.. Let it cool down, then try spraying lube, and backing it out. |
