Hello everybody!

I bought my first VW today...she's a 1969 Beetle.

A friend told me that there are some really great people here, so I decided to check it out.

A little about me:
I'm a 23 year old college student working toward my degree in Auto Tech and I work at Schucks.

I did! I drove it around for about 30 seconds before I decided I had to have it. Lol.

Just to be an ass, I continued to drive it for another 15 minutes or so. I think the guy was sure I wasn't coming back and he was going to be stuck with that P.O.S. Accord.

Well it looks like a nice find. What are your plans for it? I will be looking forward to seeing it around.

Rich

I'm not entirely sure yet. I've gotten a lot of cool ideas thrown at me.

I'm thinking I want to keep the 1600 DP transplant, but I've got a '68 Porsche 912 I want to rob some parts off of...

Jim's going to hate this next part...
I want to go with the California look....but satin fuchsia with two fat black racing stripes.

Very Happy

I'm a girl, I'm allowed. Lol.

None of the 912 stuff will work on the 1600dp

That's unfortunate.

I was told that, perhaps, some of it would.

*Shrugs*

I've also got access to two other VW engines. Though, no one could quite say for sure what they are. So, it looks like I need to go do some investigating.

Come on out Wed, and bring the numbers from the front of the block or a picture. We can tell you what those motors are, and brainstorm what you want to do with the your new car. The problem with VW's is the diversity of the modifications. I have 2 1958's, one is now a manx buggy set up for autocross, and one is a hard core utility baja, extreme ends of the spectrum.

I'd love to, but between work and school, I'm booked solid on Wednesday. Sad

Ok, so instead of taking over someone else's thread, I'm going to use this one to post my progress on my car.

Steve, I'll have you know that I ordered a Bosch coil, clutch cable (including tube & seal), deck lid seal, and a piece of engine tin (the one you & Troy said was the most important).

I know it's not much, but it's a start.

I replaced the fuel pump and that made a noticeable improvement, though, not as much as I'd hoped.

I'm just going to keep plugging away at the list we made.

I would've gotten the ball joints, but monetary issues are forcing me to hold off until my next paycheck.

Ok, I've now got ball joints, blue brake hose, new fuel line....and a new exhaust leak.

And a bit of an overheating issue.

And a tow bill.

Luckily, I got my financial aid check, so I'm not as mad as I normally would be.

*Thumbs up*

This doesn't sound good.

I just hope it's not like my little "overheating issue." Shocked

`Splain, please...

Ummm.....the day before yesterday, the exhaust disintegrated and now the car is very loud.

On my way home yesterday, after the car got hot, it started to lose power. I could smell that it got hot, so I pulled over and shut it off....it never started back up.

When I try to start it, it spins, so it's not totally seized up

I'm ordering a new exhaust system today.

This is annoying. I want to fix it. I even have the money to do it. I just am not good enough to figure out what the problem is.

By 'I could smell that it got hot', what were you smelling? Burning oil smell, or burning plastic rubber smell for example? Was there any smoke at all? (thinking burnt wires)

Did the oil light come on? Do you know if it works?

Did the Alt light come on? Does it work?

Is the fan belt still on there?

I go through Newman Lake (on trent) on the way home. If you'd like a second set of eyes to give it a quick look, I'd be happy to. I go through there around 5:30 or so. Although I don't have any tools with me today.
