Just around the spark plug area. I checked the oil cooler seals and there was no sign of leaking. Case is dry. _________________ Cool runnins

Yeah, I think it was leaking a bit. I dismissed it because I figured it was the oil cooler. The alarm bells went off when a dismantled that engine and saw the oil cooler wasn't leaking, but I dismissed that to because I was rebuilding it and planning on new heads. So I have a set of heads, that have never been rebuilt. I almost used one to replace the cracked one over the weekend, but it hadn't been helli cut or whatever they call it. I figured the compression ratio would be different than #1,2 and cause a bad embalance. I guess I'll change them both out next week end. The other heads look good. Is there any way to check their condition.
Oh, by the way, I did a compression check before I dissmantled the 1st engine, #3 had lower compression, but when I split the case what I saw being the problem was a spun rod bearing. Another alarm I ignored. I guess I'm learning alot form all this, which is good. It should make the rebuild of the new engine even go better, and help me diagnose engine problems in the future. As Steve put it, Dismantling an engine is more of an autopsy to figure out what you have thats still good. Thanks Troy. _________________ Cool runnins
