i have a '66 bug and i can not get my driver side door to open. the door handle mechanism is broken on the inside. without chippen paint and make things look bad how can i get the door open again.

from the passenger side, pull the driver seat out.

then pull the window crank/door handle, then the panel.

You'll be able to get to everything that way.
