|
|
Since this area seems a little slow please allow me to post a topic that I have thought of for quite awhile but...well. am afraid of...
How should one go about removing the dash to replace/repair a broken speaker and to install a new radio?
Is it easy to do?
What should I be most cautious about?
Is it better left in the hands of the more practiced?
Any direction would be appreciated... |

If it is a Beetle, you don't have to remove the dashpad to work on the speaker or the radio.
You can get to both of them from under the hood.
You will have to remove the fresh air box to get to the radio. 3 screws on top and a 6mm nut on bottom.

Thank you Tim, I should have clarified that I have a 71 Bay Bus.
I forget to be specific when posting. My goof.
Thanks again. |

I have the dash torn out of my 70 right now. I replaced the rusted windshield bottom lip with a used section (With Eric's help). I am now at the paint stage, and will be reinstalling the windshield and dash in the next few days. If you want to see what it all looks like when torn apart, come on over.
That said, I am not sure that you can actually remove the dash without pulling the windshield out. The screws at the base of the windshield seal might be a little tricky to get out. But, I don't think you have to remove the dash to R&R the speaker and the radio. You can remove the glove box liner for more access to them. |

Thank you Corey. I am leaving for Seattle tomorrow and back on Sunday late, if the dash is still under repair Monday or later I can come look, if not then I learned a great idea about access through the glove box; something a rookie like me would not have considered.
I appreciate the generous offer. |

I plan to install the windshield this weekend, but I may not get to it. Might not happen until nest Tuesday or Wednesday. Let me know when you get back in to town. |
