|
|
I've been having trouble shifting directly forward to find 1st. I have to search and find it almost at the 3rd position. Also when shifting to 2nd, I get reverse. This is with out pushing down on the stick. I've checked the stop plate and spent hours repositioning both it and the shifter with no results. So I'm thinking it must be internal. Anybody have any thoughts on this? Thanks! |

Have you replace the shifter bushing and coupler? Is there a lot of slop in the shifter when it is in gear? |

Yes, I've done all that. I'm thinking its internal like the hockey stick. |

Take the shifter out, disconnect the coupler, slide the shift tube forward and you should be able to find out if it is the hokey stick or not. |

Turns out that the shift rod length adjustment nut got turned enough to throw everything out of wack. It wasn't allowing the shift cup to be centered correctly. Got it adjusted and now shifts like butter. Thanks for your reply. |

Okay, so I have read everything here, but don't know where to start. Suddenly I have been having a horrible time trying to find gears. When I go for 2nd, it shoots for 4th, when I go for 3rd, it shoots for 1st...and there is a HELL of a lot of slop in the shifter in and out of gear. So, where do I start, and where do I get parts? |

I'll start with the basics. Are the two bolts holding the base of the shifter tightened down snugly? Move the shifter up and back, side to side and watch to see if the base is moving. Is the base sitting on carpet? |

No carpet, bolts are very tight. |

Have you looked at the shift rod coupler where the shift rod and transaxle meet. Under the cover by backseat? If this is loose it would cause what you've described. |
