I just wanted to clean up the rust on my 77, and the next thing I know, here's what happened.

Boy...that takes me back to 1987. My first VW was a silver "77 FI (non-super). Kinda still wish I had it,but the fuel injection was giving me too many headaches. The funny part of the story of this car...it was stolen once when I lived in San Diego and I recovered it 11 months later completely tricked-out by the thieves! Good luck on the rust repair...

Mine is a 77 as well. Most of it's life it had dual carbs. Since it's the last year for a standard beetle, it's worth keeping.

Been working on this for days. had to disassemble, clean, and reassemble all the mechanicals to get the sand out. Got the pan done, the gray parts are primer where I need to weld in patches next summer, the black is POR15.
