Well I figure I would go ahead and post up and say Hello! I just got an assignment to Fairchild AFB. I will be heading up that way in December to drop off a couple of vehicles and then bringing the family up in January. Currently we are at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas NV. I have a 67 Bug that is my daily driver here. Looks like it will only be a spring/summer driver there. I look forward to getting up to WA and getting settled in. So I havent had a chance yet to go through the entire site but wanted to say hi and ask you all what is the aircooled scene like up there? Are there any shops close? I have attached a few pics of my Bug.....

The Northwest is fantastic, I hope you will enjoy it. As for shops and the scene...nothing like the southwest unfortunately. Nice six seven! |

HI. You'll like it here compared to Fallon. I think anyway. I used to fly into Fallon occasionally when I was in the Navy. Don't be so quick to think about putting that bug away for the winter. There's lots of fun to be had in empty parking lots full of snow!
I am an excellent driver. (from Rainman). However I suck at mechanics; I'm lucky enough to have an excellent tech and friends from this site that help me out when I need it.
That WAS you I waved at the other day coming from Sandpoint wasn't it JC?

Thanks! I might just hit you up when I get there. For now we are trying to look for a place to live. Any suggestions on areas? |

Well the engine took a crap and stopped running on 11 August 2011. So I contacted a fellow V-dubber for some help. Seeing as its been about 20 years since I toar down and overhauled an engine I figured this was the best route. He already had a 1600 he was starting to build up so we are going from there. Here is what we found when we disassembled it;
New engine thats getting built;

We found no other damage inside the case that could cause it or even related to this. My friend and I are both stumped on how it happened. I was coming home from work and the car started to sound a little wierd at lower RPM's so I kept them up trying to nurse it home and it died 2 blocks from my house. |

Just one spot on the cam gear? Any pieces from the case webbing missing? That's freakin' weird! Aftermarket cam I could believe...faulty Chinese crap.....but an OEM VW cam...weird. Hang that sucka' on the wall o' shame!
